Wilson Ramos Admits Kidnapping Hoax

Washington catcher Wilson Ramos came out of hiding over the weekend, admitting he faked his own kidnapping to see if anyone would care.

“I’ve never even been to Venezuela,” said Ramos, who recently finished fourth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. “I spent most of the past week in the trunk of (teammate Jayson) Werth’s Ford Fusion.”

The elaborate hoax finally brought some attention to the Washington Nationals, a team that drew an average of just 24,877 fans a game in 2011.

“It’s nice to see our team finally get some media coverage for a change,” Nats third basemen Ryan Zimmerman told OMGG.com. “Last season we replaced Stephen Strasburg with a 12-year old Asian boy, and no one even noticed.”
